Selena Gomez was born in Los Angeles, CA, on July 22, 1992, to a father of Mexican descent and a mother of Italian. Selena Gomez is a fantastic singer, actress, producer, businesswoman, and social media Icon. She started her career on children’s television, Barney and Friends, then Disney’s Wizards of Waverly, followed by Selena Gomez on the Scene, where she launched her music career by being part of a pop rock band on that show.  

Her music career took off at that point, receiving many accolades, such as an American Music Award and two MTV Video Music Awards; she also hit the Billboard 200 and 100 ratings. 

Her original band, the Scene’s third album, When the Sun Goes Down, on debut was 4th on the Billboard 200, singles Who Say’s, was 21st on the Billboard 100, and Love You Like a Love Song was 22nd for 38 weeks. However, Selena has many fan-favorite songs such as Lose You to Love Me, The Heart Wants What It Wants, Back to You, and Same Old Love. She has done several duets, such as Justin Bieber’s, I Still Miss You I’m Sorry, Hold On, Eminem’s A Million Reasons, and Grow Old with Me. Charlie Puth and her did, We don’t talk anymore, and Marshmello did the song, Wolves. One of her most recent songs grabbing attention is Single Soon, celebrating independence from old relationships and getting back on the dating front.

Her musical success has spiraled; she has played in movies such as The Big Shout, Neighbors2, Rain Day in New York, and the voice of Mavis Dracula in the animated Hotel Transylvania movies. She currently stars in a cooking show called Selena and Chef and a light comedy-drama called Only Murders the Building. She plays a tenant with a mysterious past living in an old-fashioned building. She plays opposite Martin Short, an out-of-work stage director, and Steve Martin, an actor. Together, they solve murders for a podcast. They promise to solve murders in the building as long as other neighbors don’t kick them out of the building first.  

Gomez was named one of the most influential people on social media; she is the most followed Woman on Instagram with over 420 million followers and one of the most interesting people on Twitter. Gomez was included in Time’s annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2020 and was named Woman of the Year (2017).

She has not been afraid to use that influence. Her cosmetic product company, Rare Beauty, contributes a portion of her profits toward Mental health services. In the past, Selena has suffered from her issues, such as depression and anxiety. She has also raised awareness about other issues, such as gender, race, and reproductive freedom. She has also been an ambassador for UNICEF since 2009, an agency of the United Nations responsible for providing humanitarian and developmental aid to children worldwide.
